Too sweet, full of additives… industrial orange juice doesn’t have a very good reputation. But there seems to be one that stands out so much that it’s been recognized by consumer group UFC-Que Choisir. Find out who the lucky ones are.
What is the best industrial orange juice? Orange juice is a great breakfast staple alongside butter, jam, bread and coffee (if your stomach can stand it!). To save time, many households resort to industrially produced versions instead of freshly squeezed juice. But there are only a few that are of good quality and the price of a bottle is far from a selection criterion that would alarm UFC-Que Chosir.
What is the best industrially produced orange juice?
To get a better overview of the wide range of products available in supermarkets, the Association asked a committee of 60 consumers accustomed to tasting to find the best fruit juices available in health food stores, supermarkets and discounters. The drinks were tasted anonymously and their nutritional value was also taken into account.
The verdict?
E. Leclerc’s 100% pure orange juice “Orange Bio Village” won. And it costs just 2 euros. It received a good score of 13/20. The association states that this is the “closest score to home-squeezed juice.” Among the testers, it can be seen that “more than 80%” responded that they would “be ready to buy and consume this juice again.”
As for the juice’s composition, it is made from organically grown EU and non-EU oranges. The organic, pasteurized juice will be sold in the best-before section instead of the raw section. In addition, according to the Federal Consumers Union, the juice boasts “a vitamin C level that exceeds the minimum required for orange juice.” According to UFC, it’s also a good source of polyphenols and is rich in vitamin B9. Despite its many benefits, it is still high in sugar and should be consumed in moderation.
