Every country has its own vibe and tasty dishes that people love. Whether it’s in India or somewhere abroad, each place has its own unique flavors and names for their food. Today, we’re diving into one of Britain’s lesser-known gems: the Scotch Egg. It’s made with raw eggs, breadcrumbs, and meat, and it’s a hit not just in the UK but all around the globe. You can whip it up for a picnic, party, or just as a snack anytime!

So, What’s the Story Behind Scotch Eggs?
The history of Scotch Eggs is a bit murky. Some folks think it dates back to the 18th century, while others say it’s from the 19th. It first popped up in 1738 thanks to Fortnum & Mason, a food shop in London, created for travelers who needed a tasty bite on long journeys. Some historians even link it to Indian Kofta, and there’s a theory that Scottish farmers came up with it as a budget-friendly meal.

How to Make a Scotch Egg
Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 100 grams of mutton mince
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4-5 cloves of garlic
  • 2 onions (finely chopped)
  • 3-4 green chilies (finely chopped)
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala
  • ½ bowl of breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons refined flour
  • 2 raw eggs
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

Steps to Make It:

  1. Start by boiling the eggs. Once they’re done, toss them in ice water for a bit, then peel them.
  2. In a bowl, mix the mutton mince with chopped onions, green chilies, garlic paste, and all the spices. Mash it up well.
  3. In another bowl, beat the yolks of the eggs.
  4. Spread the minced meat mixture on some plastic wrap, place a boiled egg in the center, wrap it up, and cover it with the meat.
  5. Dip the whole thing in flour, then coat it with the beaten egg yolk.
  6. Roll it in breadcrumbs until it’s well coated.
  7. Heat some oil in a pan and fry those bad boys until they’re golden brown.
  8. Once they’re cooked, slice them in half and serve with mayo, sauce, or mustard.
