How to Make Urad Dal Khichdi
Wash the urad dal and rice separately.
Soak the lentils and rice in water for a while.
Add the spices to the pressure cooker. Sauté the mixture for a minute and then add the drained lentils.
Roast the lentils and add the rice and water.
Season the mixture with salt and pepper and cook on low heat for a while.

Urad dal (black lentils) – ¾ cup
Rice – 1 cup
Ginger – ½ inch
Green chilies – 1-2, chopped
Asafoetida – a little
Salt – according to your taste
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
2/3 teaspoon coriander powder
Refined oil – 2 tablespoons
1 bay leaf
2 flowers
1/2″ cinnamon stick
5-6 black peppercorns and 1-2 black cardamoms
Step 1:
Wash the urad dal and rice separately.
Step 2:
Soak the lentils in water for 1 hour and the rice for half an hour.
Step 3:
In a pressure cooker, add oil, masala spices, cumin, asafoetida, then add crushed ginger and green chillies.
Step 4:
Sauté the mixture for about a minute and then add drained lentils, salt, red chillies and coriander powder.
Step 5:
After cooking the lentils for about 5 minutes, add rice and water.
Step 6:
Season the mixture with salt and cook on high heat until you hear 2-3 whistles and cook for a while longer.
Step 7:
Khichdi is ready!
