Kids always seem hungry!
I can’t tell you how many times a day my son asks me for a snack. And while I want him to feel good and healthy, it’s hard for me to stop every few minutes and feed him something else.
With that in mind, I’ve come up with a simple solution to help him have more independence and get the snacks he needs on his own – create a snack station. DIY your own mouth using cheap products from Walmart!
I’m sharing my best snack organization and snack ideas to make it easy for kids to grab their snacks so you don’t have to!
Stay tuned for the best snack organization ideas, plus tips and tricks!
If you’re ready to snack, start by categorizing your snacks: chips and crackers together, granola bars, pudding, fruit, etc.
Consider the sizes and quantities of your most common snacks and try to find the best container and box organization for each type of snack.
Here are some of my favorite snack storage ideas:
I love this 5-piece clear box set from Walmart’s Home Edit collection. Everyone needs big boxes to store big items, like this 10×10 plastic modular bin from Walmart.
This 5-piece laundry storage system is perfect for pantries or baby snacks. (It even has a turntable/lazy susan!)
This versatile 8-piece storage system includes solutions for both small and large items.
Finally, you need a good shopping cart. This is especially helpful for kids. Try to keep the dimensions of your pantry shelves in mind when shopping so you can make sure you have enough space for everything you buy.
Here are some tips to help you organize your pantry once you’ve purchased all your containers:
I follow a few simple rules when organizing everything in my pantry.
Make sure everything is clearly visible. Hidden items will be forgotten and thrown away.
Keep similar items together so you know exactly where to find the food you need.
Remember to store small, loose items in boxes or containers to keep them together and organized.
Place your heaviest items on the floor or the lowest shelf to eliminate heavy lifting.
How to stock a kid’s snack pantry You can create a snack area for kids in your pantry or use a storage cart. Here are some special snack ideas for your pantry.
First, make sure your snacks are within reach of your child. This may mean making room under the counter. If you have it, you can use the floor space under the shelves. Organize your boxes and containers so that similar items are next to each other and everything is easy to find.
I always use clear boxes like the ones linked above so you can clearly see what is in each box. This helps kids pick out the snacks they want without having to ask where they are, and you can keep track of when you need them.
You can fill the boxes with categories or numbers to show your child which items are available when.
For example, when they get home from school, they can pick 1 snack from category A (chips and cookies), 2 snacks from category B (fruit), and 1 snack from category C (water). This will help you keep track of how much they are eating and make sure they are eating exactly what you want them to eat.
